(JUNE 25) Tonight in Edmonton, Canada, Tonya “America’s
Bad Girl” Harding, 33, 135 lbs., was stopped 1:04 in the third
round, after taking a “beating” in Edmonton, Canada. Probably not a good idea to
fight as a "lightweight", when a boxer Tonya’s size, would fare
much better as a Junior
bantamweight or bantamweight.
When WBAN learned of
Harding weighing in at a whopping ten pounds over the original weight of 125
lbs., for this fight with 22 year old Amy Johnson, 132----it was a “no brainer”
as to what would happen. Johnson, now 2-0-1, is a natural lightweight who
fights comfortably in the 130’s. Johnson stands at 5’5”, with Harding
giving away not only the reach advantage---but the height.
According to news
sources on the net, Harding was booed when she entered the ring, and when
she was pummeled by Johnson, the boxing fans jumped to their feet cheering.
Earlier this week, news
was a buzzin’ about Harding being offered a million dollars to fight for a
world title shot. The boxing community were livid at even the mere
thought of
such a thing.
Michael Korff wrote to
WBAN,
“Tonya Harding fighting for a Million Dollars? I do not think so. I hope
that it is only a false report. If it is true I hate to use this term as
many others do, but this would be a real phoney baloney fight, if there was
ever was one.”
A Boxing trainer, Jordan M. wrote, “Who would be so silly to even entertain
the thought of Tonya Harding fighting for a title. She has not even had a
credible opponent. She fought Shannon Birmingham to a decision. Cindy
“Checkmate” Serrano TKO'd Shannon in less than one minute.
Her trainer must be living in a fantasy world, thinking Tonya is worth more
than the couple of hundred the average decent female fighters gets. It's an
insult to even think about her making more money than these real fighters.
So let's not feed into this insanity. If it does happen, which in boxing
crazier things have happened. Don’t spend a penny on this crap. Now without
viewers her percentage of the PPV would be exactly what the fight is worth---ZERO.”
Another avid boxing fan,
Nick C. wrote, “She isn't worth a million bucks if she fought Nancy
Kerrigan. AND I'd bet on Nancy to beat her and maybe KO her. Who comes up
with this garbage? The fight game, male and female has gone Loony Tunes.”
Leonard Lukshaitis cut
right to the bone when he wrote into WBAN, “Lots of BS in this story, but
just the thought of her fighting for a million instead of real fighters like
Rijker, Anani, Wolfe, etc. makes me want to puke.”
One of the very talented female
boxers in the sport, Janaya Davis, wrote, “It's very sad that only in
women's boxing can you have someone who has not earned a shot at a title
fight, can not box and is not ranked, fight for $1 million. There are no
laws that apply to title fights for women like there are for men. These
women make a joke out of female boxing. This is why we are not taken
seriously as boxers and will never gain the respect from the public or make
the money that top ranked men make. I'm still waiting for a title fight or
even a big money fight. This is why it is so insulting to ask a ranked
fighter to fight a six rounder for $600. Women boxing is becoming a big
joke! I'm disgusted.”
Harding pulled in
$25,000 for tonight’s fight. There were no reports that gave the amount
Johnson was paid.
