FIGHT REPORT
March 1, 1977
Sue Fox vs. Lavonne Ludian

Fight report written by a local paper where Ludian
was from...
Nevada State Journal  - Reno
By Steve Sneddon - Dated March 2, 1977

In a surprise, LaVonne Ludian of Las Vegas ran into a little more trouble than she expected in her tuneup for next Wednesday's women's welterweight championship fight with Theresa "Princess Red Star" Kibby in Las Vegas. Sue Fox, 148, San Pedro, Calif., fought Ludian, 148, to a four-round draw.

The wild punching Fox, 2-1-1 as a pro, stunned Ludian with a hooking left to the chin in the opening seconds of the bout. Ludian, 8-1-1 as a pro, admitted seeing "the lights of Las Vegas," after the punch. But the southpaw Fox kept her distance most of the fight, waiting for the charging Ludian.

In the third round, Fox looked like she would become Ludian's sixth knockout victim. Ludian scored repeatedly with straight rights to the chin in the third as Fox desperately tried to fight back.

At the bell ending the third round sounded, Fox wobbled back to her corner. Judge John McSweeney scored it 19-18 for Fox, while Burt Burchett had it 18-17 for Ludian. Judge Curt Kinseth scored it 18-18.

[Note: Mr. T Promotions tried to get a rematch in Las Vegas, on an Ernie Shaver card that took place at the Caesar's Palace.  Ludian was offered $5,000, and Fox $2,500 for a four round bout.  Fox was told that Ludian turned down the fight because she did not like fighting "Southpaws".   Fox never did get a rematch with Ludian. ]
